What a year! Not a dull moment. Check the message that I received yesterday. It comes from one of the “alternative” sources that I sometimes consult in search of some lightness to challenge the solemn -and at times really concerned about the future- economist inside me: “Congratulations! You have just completed what mayhave been a challenging -really?- but hopefully productive -that I must admit- period in your life. Hopefully, over the last year you have been able to clear out what isn´t working in your life -maybe just some of it but boy, has it been intense- and are ready to graduate to a new stage of maturity and fulfillment.” -really? why me, why do I have to graduate beyond where I am? what about the “usual suspects”? what about THEM?
Resistiéndome a la idea de que tengo que madurar :). A mí a ratos me gustaría hacer justo lo contrario. ¿Y a vosotros? Me atrae mucho más lo de alcanzar una mayor plenitud, aunque parte del desafío es justamente que, para mí, y para mucha de la gente con la que hablo, a la que acompaño, a la que observo, a la que “veo y que me ve” en la más profunda acepción de la palabra, el concepto de plenitud está en obras, y por tanto es visiblemente aplicable aquello de “disculpe las molestias, estamos trabajando para usted”.
My data tells me that it has been a bittersweet period for many, a season to experience the full power of “Shining” as well as the mighty lessons that sorrow and longing teach us about creativity, compassion, leadership, spirituality, mortality, or love. And by the way, this is the subject of Susan Cain´s last book that I highly recommend to those of you who are ready to visit the shadow and stop pretending that there is only light, no matter how hard we try. Particularly if your motivation stems from the fact that you have truly -finally- discovered that the first law of holes -as a very wise elder from a factory where I once was very happy taught me-, states that once you are inside one, it is best to stop digging.
Un tiempo en el que muchos hemos perdido “la ilusión de que vivir es indoloro” como diría nuestro tan querido y cada vez más reconocido Jorge Drexler, -bravo, Jorge, por cierto, ¿habéis escuchado “Tocarte”?-. Or, as Stephen Gilligan told me a couple of months ago in an incredible Master Class with great coaches and therapists from all over the world… we have understood that the second -or third, fourth…you choose-, act of life is about integrating the parts of life itself -and of ourselves and others- that are not always recognizable if we are only searching for the light. A wise man who even had the audacity (:) to tell me that for someone who writes a book called “Shine”, the next natural step should be to write one called “Shadow”, to cross that threshold that many of us resist -I must confess that I do- towards a full-bodied version of ourselves. Therefore, you could say, that as if it were an act of poetic justice, this year has been for me -and for what I know also for many of you, kindred spirits- a very powerful “research opportunity” for that second, third or fourth act, for that second book :).
Last but not least, quiero daros las GRACIAS a todos los que ya sois parte del #MovimientoShine. Por vuestras historias, por las fotos de SHINE en lugares remotos a los que yo también quería ir y por los comentarios, preguntas, subrayados y reflexiones compartidos desde tantos lugares del mundo. Entre lo más bonito que me habéis dicho está que “leerlo es como hablar conmigo”, y que “no es un libro solo para leer” sino “para pensar, trabajar, releer, hacerme las preguntas clave para este momento”. O que os ha servido para “disfrutar aprendiendo conceptos y herramientas y conociendo a personas de tantos mundos distintos que me hacen sentir que lo que hago merece la pena”. Y es que Shine está dirigido a “seres humanos que buscan la plenitud y te invitan a su mundo”, para ayudarnos a “salir de los agujeros”, como ya ha hecho con muchos, empezando por mí :). Y para recordarnos que “el único propósito que nunca perderá frescura es el de servir” -gracias a otro Jorge por recordarme mis propias palabras, tan útiles para esos momentos de amnesia-.
Así que mientras llega el momento de ponerme con “Shadow”, voy a seguir un tiempo más la estela de Shine, porque tiene muchas cosas que contar y yo no he estado suficientemente disponible para que lo pueda hacer. También porque es mi “mensaje en una botella”, y me ha traído experiencias increíbles con personas a las que nunca habría llegado sin él… y porque yo sé que este movimiento no ha hecho más que empezar y es importante que llegue a más personas de otras tierras, con otros códigos, en otras lenguas. A muchas más de esas personas que queremos ser parte del presente y del futuro desde un lugar creativo, constructivo y generador de posibilidades... ocupando un lugar distinto y que nos pertenece, nuestro propio lugar, para desde ahí poder brillar e iluminar.

Que los días que vienen y el nuevo año os traigan la mezcla de “Shine” y “Shadow” que más pueda serviros en este momento, la que os permita estar a medio camino entre tener una “cama de algodón” y convertiros en la versión más “full-bodied” de vosotros mismos de la que seáis capaces… Y que la Fuerza nos acompañe.
